Clemson University rising senior Emmy Musial is building her resume with a summer internship at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab thanks to ExxonMobil’s Community Summer Job Program.

The Estuarium is the perfect spot for Musial to put her biological science courses to work. 

“It’s interesting to see the different personalities of the animals,” Musial said. “The diamondback terrapin is my favorite. He’ll follow me back and forth when I’m near the tank. I’ve also learned the tripletail like to hide.”

Musial, who’s from Coden, said she’s learned a lot on the job. Her hope is to obtain a masters in biomedical engineering, and eventually, work with animal medicine. 

ExxonMobil celebrates its 25th year of the Community Summer Job Program. The program supports not only the students as they pave their career path but also non-profit agencies. 

“During the past 24 years, ExxonMobil has provided funding for about 350 college students to intern with Mobile-area nonprofit organizations,” said Patrick Gorman, ExxonMobil Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay Asset Manager. “The Community Summer Jobs Program provides interns with invaluable work experience along with a better understanding of and appreciation for the important role of nonprofit organizations.”

“The Dauphin Island Sea Lab has benefitted from the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program with more than 45 students interning in public relations, aquarium aquaculture, and marine education,” Dr. John Dindo added. 

Just recently, 2014 ExxonMobil intern Logan Holfelder joined the Estuarium aquarist team after graduating from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
