The Dauphin Island Sea Lab was well represented at the 2018 Relay for Life of Mobile County with DISL faculty, staff, and students joining Team Spadefish Fighting Cancer and Team Princess and the Cure.
Relay for Life is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, bringing together communities to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against cancer by fundraising to support life saving research, cancer education and prevention, and invaluable support services for cancer patients and their families.
Many members of the DISL family were present at Relay for Life this year and attended the special survivor and caregiver luncheon. Survivors, both with us and those we have lost, were also honored and remembered during the Relay's luminary ceremony.
Altogether, the two DISL community teams raised more than $7,000 for the American Cancer Society. Additionally, Team Spadefish won fundraising awards as the #1 Online Fundraising Team, #1 Friends and Family Team, and #1 Individual Fundraiser for Team Captain Elizabeth Hieb. Team Spadefish also took home the Stork Award, given to the team that best represented and delivered the American Cancer Society's mission to to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.
Both teams would like to thank the DISL and South Mobile County communities for their incredibly generous support, and we look forward to another great Relay for Life in 2019.
