Interested in learning more about our coastal habitats? Have a few hours to volunteer each week or month? Then, the Estuarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab would love your help.
The annual Docent Introductory Class will be held on Saturday, March 3. Our team of world-class marine educators and aquarists will help you get to know the animals and explore the habitats represented in the Estuarium.
The Estuarium, our public aquarium, focuses on the natural wonders of Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Tens of thousands of visitors visit the Estuarium year-round, from school children to international visitors.
Our docents are an important part of making the experience a memorable one for each of those visitors.
Docent/volunteers can be ages 14 years old and up. Parents must accompany 14 and 15 year olds to the class and to the volunteer days. Once completing the training, which includes three shifts of shadowing, you are asked to commit volunteer time to either once a week or once a month. Volunteers are also needed to help maintain the Butterfly Garden.
Reference materials will be provided as part of the introductory class. The class will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The location will be announced closer to class time. Lunch will also be provided.
If you are interested in attending the introductory class, you must pre-register by Monday, February 26. You can download the application by clicking here.
