Dr. Steven Leath spent a Friday afternoon touring the Dauphin Island Sea Lab campus. Dr. Leath was appointed as Auburn University's president in March.
The first stop on Dr. Leath's tour was the Auburn Shellfish Laboratory. The Shellfish Laboratory has been instrumental in the oyster farming industry across coastal Alabama. Hatchery manager Scott Rikard led the tour of the shellfish laboratory explaining the process, and the tools used by oyster farmers.
DISL Executive Director Dr. John Valentine wrapped Dr. Leath's tour of campus at the Estuarium, DISL's public aquarium.
Auburn University is one of 22 Alabama colleges and universties that makes up the Marine Sciences Environmental Consortium. Students who attend MESC schools expand their marine science studies at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab with University Programs.
