Plankton in 3D: A Virtual Teacher Workshop
Dates: April 9, 10, and 11, 2024 (Tuesday, Wedneseday, & Thursday from 4:00-6:00 pm CST) (FULL)
Cost: $25 postage fee for mailing Plankton 3D kit.
Join Discovery Hall Programs for this three session, six hour virtual workshop all about plankton. We’ll discuss the good (such as the oxygen we breathe or the nitrogen they make available), the bad (such as harmful algal blooms), and the ugly (wait until you see larger-than-life crab larvae!) of plankton.
This workshop will include science content, hands-on and computer-based activities focused on plankton for classrooms or extracurricular programs, and the opportunity to hear about current research at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab on plankton ecology. Activities and content will be tied to Alabama state standards and Ocean Literacy Principles.
Workshop participants will receive a Plankton in 3d! Classroom Kit, consisting of six 3D printed models with accompanying ID cards, a preserved plankton sample for use in teaching, food web cards, plankton life cycle wheel, supplies for an ocean acidification experiment and access to a variety of other resources.
A certificate (6 contact hours) for CEUs will be provided upon completion of the workshop.
