Are you interested in bringing underwater robotics into your teaching, but not surewhere to start? Do you already have a SeaPerch ROV, but need direction before building one with your students? If so, join us for this virtual workshop consisting of 3 virtual, 2 hour sessions.
Through guided instruction, you will build a SeaPerch ROV from the circuit board up so that by the last session, you’ll have a fully functional ROV and are confident in guiding your students through building a ROV!
You’ll explore the skills and concepts behind the ROV’s electronics, waterproofing, tether construction, and frame design during the sessions. In addition, we’ll also discuss the benefits of this STEM program for students and opportunities for additional student involvement through regional or international competitions.
Sessions will take place in the afternoons on January 30, 31, and February 1 from 3 - 5 p.m. CST. You can expect to spend a little time working outside of these sessions to complete some construction phases.
The optional in-person session will take place at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab on February 3 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. CST and will allow participants to fly their newly constructed ROV in our pool, troubleshoot problems they may have encountered and share some simple and fun ROV activities.
Prior to the workshop, the SeaPerch ROV kit will be mailed to your school. In addition to the provided ROV, you will also need to have a few tools on hand to be able to complete the build (ruler, scissors, needle nose pliers, wire cutter/stripper, Phillips #2 screwdriver, PVC cutters, multimeter, power drill, soldering iron and solder).
