Maintenance Carpenter
Description
The Dauphin Island Sea Lab is seeking a skilled General Carpentry Maintenance technician to join our Facilities team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of carpentry tasks, including repairs, maintenance, and minor construction projects.
- Job Type: Full-time
- Expected hours: 40 per week
- Schedule: 8 hour shift, Day shift, Monday to Friday

Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of rough and finish carpentry work, including framing, installing, and repairing doors, windows, and other building components.
- Build and repair furniture, cabinets, and other woodwork.
- Operate and maintain woodworking machinery (saws, jointers, planers, etc.).
- Perform minor repairs, such as fixing locks, filling gaps, and replacing hardware.
- Assist with renovations and collaborate with other tradespeople.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and repair on building systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow safety regulations and wear appropriate PPE.
- Assist with groundskeeping duties (e.g., mowing, trash removal).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in general carpentry, finished carpentry, or framing in a commercial or residential setting.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
- Experience using hand and power tools.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Driver’s License. 1
- Physical stamina and dexterity; ability to lift 50 lbs.
