Maintenance Carpenter

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab is seeking a skilled General Carpentry Maintenance technician to join our Facilities team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of carpentry tasks, including repairs, maintenance, and minor construction projects.

  • Expected hours: 40 per week
  • Schedule: 8 hour shift, Day shift, Monday to Friday

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a variety of rough and finish carpentry work, including framing, installing, and repairing doors, windows, and other building components.
  • Build and repair furniture, cabinets, and other woodwork.
  • Operate and maintain woodworking machinery (saws, jointers, planers, etc.).
  • Perform minor repairs, such as fixing locks, filling gaps, and replacing hardware.
  • Assist with renovations and collaborate with other tradespeople.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and repair on building systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow safety regulations and wear appropriate PPE.
  • Assist with groundskeeping duties (e.g., mowing, trash removal).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in general carpentry, finished carpentry, or framing in a commercial or residential setting.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid Driver’s License. 1
  • Physical stamina and dexterity; ability to lift 50 lbs.
