PC / Network Support Technician

Job Description

The PC / Network Technician position will be able to support all IT related systems including but not limited to network, web, printers, and computers for all MESC/Dauphin Island Sea Lab departments and end users.

The IT Support Technician position will be given specific responsibilities commensurate with their current abilities and given additional responsibilities as additional knowledge and skills are obtained.

  • Salary 38 - 40K/year
  • Not a remote work position

Essential Job Duties, but not limited to:

  • Ability and willingness to learn and retain information.
  • Provide hardware, software, Audio/Visual, Printing, and Network support to users.
  • Ability to apply acquired knowledge to efficiently address user issues.
  • Set up new computers for use in respective departments.
  • Work incoming issues via an incident management system, escalating as needed.
  • Maintain and create documentation for all IT related systems and functions.
  • Pull, test, and terminate network cables as needed.
  • Maintain Backup media on a daily backup schedule.
  • Any other duties necessary to ensure IT systems are highly available to end users.
  • Very detail oriented
  • Must be very Self-driven with a desire to produce the best possible work product.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Comfortable in an environment with children/students present

Physical Abilities:

  • Frequent walking
  • Frequent climbing stairs and ladders
  • Comfortable outside in seasonal weather conditions
  • Ability to lift/carry 40 lbs.
  • Computer screen viewing for long periods
  • Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and pulling, pushing, possible heavy lifting and carrying.

Interpersonal Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a professional manner with a diverse group of people with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Work well within a skilled team and independently. Be able to provide and receive peer review in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with limited oversight.
  • Demonstrate personal integrity and trustworthiness.
  • Manage stressful situations and change priorities effectively without becoming flustered.
  • Required to be patient, understanding, and possess an amenable personality.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Due to the nature of the position, work beyond regular hours (to include evenings and weekends) may be necessary to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Follow all DISL policies and procedures

Preferred Skills

  • Intermediate to expert Windows OS knowledge.
  • Intermediate Apple OS knowledge.
  • Mobile devices from various vendors.
  • Microsoft Office 365
  • A good general understanding of hardware
  • A drive to adapt and grow within the IT field by learning on your own and from your peers.
  • A good general understanding of ethernet cabling and termination

Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma/GED required
  • Minimum of 2 years of college courses or equivalent degree.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years in a technical role or education demonstrating technical knowledge.
  • Microsoft Office Suite ( Excel, Google Sheets, Power point, etc.)
  • Google applications and Google Workspace
  • Will consider informal experience, i.e., providing technical assistance to peers and family.
  • Experience must be applicable to the job description
